May 4-11 has been designated as the NFMC National Music Week. This week is dedicated to music making and the restorative power of music in our lives. The National Federation of Music Clubs has been in existence for over 100 years and was established to build musical programs and musicianship in a country that was sending young musicians to the ‘Old World’ to be trained.
It has taken a long time to build programs that compete with those of Europe and Asia. NFMC’s dedication has lead to some fantastic programs for composers, the handicapped, young artists starting a musical career and the most well known program, Festivals.
This Saturday, our Mile High Music Maker Junior Federated Club will be celebrating National Music Week with a Recital program at Nazarene Bible College. Students will share music from their Associated Board Royal Schools of Music Exams as well as music written by American composers who have composed using Colorado themes as the focus for their pieces.
